Aren't we all Just Using God?

I came across a series of tweets on twitter: people were condemning polygamy, especially the females. These tweets were so powerful and they took out time to quote several scriptures to condemn polygamy. Anyone will have thought that these people were so passionate to ensure that God’s laws were being obeyed, but in the real sense, they were only fending for themselves using God’s law as a bait. They were not doing it for God, but for themselves.

How a fornicator and liar will kick so much against polygamy using the bible, you can only wonder if the fornicator has never seen that the bible is also against fornication. But the truth is that we are only using God’s law to our advantages, we are not using God’s laws to please God. We stick to only the laws that are favorable to us. The laws we will benefit from.

We want our partners not to cheat because they are Christians, but deep down, we know it is not for Christianity, it is for our feelings. We are only using that law of Christianity to protect our feelings. If we are truly passionate about Christians not cheating, we will all kick against our friends and relatives cheating and will treat it as if it was our partner that was cheating. But no, it is not about God, it is about us.

Most of our church leaders no longer care about holiness and obedience to God. Why would they? Holiness doesn't favor them directly: It favors God. They will rather focus all their energy on the laws that will favor them. They will spend all their efforts telling us that we need to bring our offerings and tithes to God and even sow seed regularly so that God won’t curse our blessings. They won’t tell us that simple disobedience to God can get us destroyed just like it happened to Saul. That doesn't favor them, so it isn't a law worth emphasizing. I am very sure that if the offerings and tithes went directly to God without these men of God coming in contact with it, they would not spend so much time laying emphasis on offerings and tithes.

I once heard a man of God say something similar to this: “You can cheat and steal from other men, but don’t dare touch God’s money, bring his offering and tithes, else he will curse your blessings”. So ridiculous! Then we blame the devil for the robberies and corruption in our society. If our Men of God passionately preach holiness the way they preach on tithes and offerings, I am very sure the world will be a better place.

Some are very unwise with it, they will even twist the scriptures just to take advantage of God’s law. About a year ago, I was invited to a church program, one of the ministers at the program opened his mouth to tell us that when David wanted to fight Goliath, he brought out stones from his bag. So if we wanted to defeat our giants, we should dip our hands in our bags and bring out ‘something’. I was utterly disgusted, but luckily, I didn't have a bag with me and my name is not David. When next I get invited to such gatherings, I’ll pretend my name is David, then I’ll go to a stream to pick five smooth stones and put it in a bag, just in case I get another opportunity to defeat my Goliath. lol

Almost everyone in the church now pays their offerings and tithes and even sow seeds, the church is getting richer, but very few people are really holy. Can’t we see God has been used to enrich the church, whereas the holiness that will please God himself is below par?
We the congregation are bigger culprits. We are quick to pay our tithes and offerings because we know it secures our prosperity as preached to us by our pastors. We don’t focus on holiness because we have been made to believe that holiness won’t bring money into our pockets. But God doesn't think so in this bible verse: To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice (Pro 21:3 AMP). Your righteousness is more acceptable than your sacrifices and seeds, but your pastor never told you this because your righteousness doesn't favor him.

Several other valuable teachings have been abandoned by the church, all because we want to please ourselves.
Whenever we are trying to get a favor from someone, we ‘’beg them in God’s name’’, but if we are also begged in God’s name, would we bulge? Almost everyone is guilty of this.

How many of us ever decide to worship God just to please him? Most of us worship God and we have it at the back of our minds that after worshiping him, we will table our requests before him and get a response. Almost every act of worshiping and lifting of hands is an attempt to use God.
Actually, God is not complaining, his mysterious nature does not care whether we are using him or not. He will use every little opportunity he gets to bless us and make us better. Some people appear before him just when they need something, yet he attends to them. I will forever be in awe of God’s kindness.

Friends, we need to start loving God truly and chase after him genuinely like the Apostles in the bible. We should make efforts to start obeying all of his rules, just because he is God. We should set a day aside to truly worship him in the beauty of his holiness, just worship him to make him delighted. Let us fall in love with God and develop a genuine relationship and obey all his laws, instead of just using him as a tool to get everything we want. God is more than a tool of prosperity.
