THis article got me so much buzz on the social media. It got featured on omojuwa.com and I had to deal with hundreds of comments. Some were attacks and insults, but most people agreed with me. Apparently, the rot in the C.A.N. was obvious, but everyone waited for someone to speak up. Luckily, I was that someone!

The Christian association set out in 1976 to be the umbrella body of all Christian churches in Nigeria, but due to some internal factors, not all churches were part of this body, some even withdrew after joining.
I feel CAN has failed to totally reflect the true epitome of Christianity, but have rather chosen to be characterized with reckless statements and acts, I remember in 2006 when Peter Akinola, (the president as at then) chose not to preach ‘peace and love despite incitement’, but chose to remind Christians that our Muslim brothers did not have a monopoly to violence, and some counterfeit Christians, in response to their president’s call rioted and killed about seventy Muslims.
We all thought that was the height, until Ayo Oritsejafor became CAN president in 2010 and started gallivanting all around Aso Rock. Ayo Oritsejafor brings many questions to my mind, especially when I remember Bashir Yussuf’s tweet, where Bashir quoted Ayo Oritsejafor saying He(Ayo) was not sure if he had forgiven his (Ayo) own mother for abandoning him. What a statement from a ‘man of God’, but I trust the God who looks beyond the flaws of those he has chosen to work for him. Ayo Oritsejafor has succeeded in putting religious barriers among several Nigerians. Ayo Oritsejafor is a Christian leader that no one should want to emulate the character publicly displayed by him. I remember a word by one of my respected men of God that most Men of God are righteous only while on the pulpit, but off pulpit, they are the opposite of the gospel they preach.
Pastor Tunde Bakare led the protest for Goodluck Jonathan’s confirmation as President while Yar-Adua was sick, but when he realized that Jonathan was that kind of man that only has cash gifts in dollars to offer, he quickly withdrew from him, but Ayo Oritsejafor did not do the same, he jumped on the Goodluck Jonathan bandwagon, it was even so bad that at a point, CAN was being referred to as a wing of the People’s Democratic Party.
Ayo Oritsejafor once called on the President and the National Assembly to enact a law that would make every Nigerian carry arms for their own protection. This made me wonder how many guns our dear CAN president has in his arsenal, and the things he has done in the name of ‘self protection’. Did he even think of what will happen if all Nigerians were allowed to carry arms.
I also remember how idle he got that he made a big issue out of a tweet that was retweeted by Nassir El Rufai. I was ashamed when the supposedly revered CAN took to the media, calling El Rufai names over a mere retweet. I have a strong feeling that this present CAN leaders have derailed from the vision that led to the establishment of CAN in 1976. No wonder the Catholic Church and several other denominations pulled out of the Ayo Oritsejafor led CAN.
In an interview with Ozioma Ubabukoh, Ayo Oritsejafor made a very reckless statement, recommending that when Boko Haram members are killed, their flesh should be given to pigs because they are not better than pigs, I was shocked. What manner of human being makes such a statement. In that interview, he also said El Rufai was too small for him; Did Jesus ever call anyone too small, Ayo Oritsejafor now probably thinks that unlike Jesus, he is bigger than some people because he now has a private jet, has a golden walking stick and wears heavy jewelry like an upcoming Nigerian musician.
I want to know if Ayo Oritsejafor and his CAN has ever reached out to Muslim leaders for a peace meeting, if not, then they have failed Nigerian Christians as a whole and have also failed Jesus’ order that we should always strive to be at peace with our neighbors.
Talking about the kidnapped girls, these girls have been kidnapped for over two weeks, the ‘unusually caring CAN’ did not notice that its members have been kidnapped, until young Nigerians made use of social media to bully the Federal Government into carrying out their responsibility of securing the life of all Nigerians, even if it’s the lives of young girls from Borno State. At such sensitive time when we were all bothered about our girls, the Ayo Oritsejafor led CAN shows up again to tell us that not 234 girls were kidnapped, but 165 Christians, for whom he seeked damages of Fifty Million naira each for the girls and international scholarship packages for each of them, It is actually nothing compared to the Billions of Naira being wasted on the Amnesty programme for the (ex)Niger Delta criminals, but I wonder where Ayo Oritsejafor and his ‘damages theory’ were, when ‘Christians’ were being kidnapped all over Nigeria, and I asked him on what criteria were his 165 girls deserving of the scholarship which exempted the rest of the girls.
If the man called Ayo Oritsejafor is not called to order, he will make Christians see Boko Haram as a tool being used by Muslims against Christians and like the 2006 riots instigated by Peter Akinola, he could also instigate Christians to take violent actions against Muslims and I only wonder where Nigeria would stand by then.
Ayo Oritsejafor just wears that big crucifix with that huge gold chain that reminds me of TerryG’s jewelry collection, but I doubt if he knows what the man on that crucifix stands for. If the man on that crucifix represents love, forgiveness, praying for our enemies, not taking revenge, and always striving for peace, then Ayo Oritsejafor has lost touch with that man on the crucifix. That’s even none of my business , all I am clamoring for is that Ayo Oritsejafor should be called to order and the probable implications of his actions should be explained to him, because he apparently is unaware of them.
